About this Module
In this seminar, Dr. Shiu will teach the basics of photobiomodulation (PBM), qEEG, and laser therapy and how to incorporate these technologies in a clinical session.
Photobiomodulation
Participants will learn the history of photobiomodulation from Egyptian times to the present. This course also teaches about the advancements that PBM technology has achieved that has made it a more precise modality that helps the brain and other tissue recover from injury.
Dr. Shiu will explain PBM pulse frequencies and wavelengths, the effects that they produce in the body, and which work best to treat neurological injuries. You will learn how photobiomodulation improves cellular function and penetrates the mitochondria to improve fatigue, brain vascularity, oxygenation, and much more.
qEEG
The qEEG brain scan produces the most accurate live scans of the brain between measuring its electrical activity in the form of brain wave patterns. It allows you to see the interactions within (of? between?) the conscious and unconscious brain and reveals activity associated with ADHD, dyslexia, insomnia, anxiety, depression, autistic spectrum disorders, and more. qEEG is useful for uncovering which parts of the brain are malfunctioning and where acupuncture treatment should be targeted.
Dr. Shiu and his clinic staff have learned how to perform and analyze qEEG scans. In many cases, patients have undergone a follow up scan after completing a round of Nanopuncture treatments to confirm evidence of progress and that the correct healthcare plan is selected
In this module, participants will learn:
- The basics of brain wave activity and how qEEG can analyze the brain
- Research explaining how qEEG technology can both analyze and treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
- The latest research showing which specific brain wave frequencies can treat Parkinson’s dementia and other neurological conditions
- How to combine acupuncture with qEEG Neurofeedback sessions, a treatment that is unique to the Shiu Clinic
- The devices Dr. Shiu uses in his clinic, including handheld lasers, facial screens, qEEG devices, laser beds, and more
Dr. Shiu has always strived to learn and integrate the best, most cutting-edge technology with acupuncture methodology. He not only uses these technologies but has forged relationships with the engineers, innovators, and vendors developing them.
The Shiu Clinic is one of a few locations on the East Coast that uses the ReGen Pod, a customizable photobiomodulation light bed. Dr. Shiu has researched frequencies and customized PBM protocols for dementia, speech, focus, Parkinson’s, MS, stroke, and athletic injuries.

Gut-Brain Axis / Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Dementia Module
The Gut-Brain Axis module is the most recent addition to the Nanopuncture seminar series. In this course, participants will learn the relationship of the microbiome to the brain.
In the Sports and Orthopedic module, Dr. Shiu will teach participants how to apply nerve plexus resetting techniques to treat common sports and orthopedic injuries.
