Concussion / Traumatic Brain Injury Module

Part of the Nanopuncture Seminar Series

About this Module

The Nanopuncture System accelerates concussion recovery and treats post-concussion symptoms using techniques that calm the nervous system, reduce tachycardia, increase focus, and mitigate hypersensitivity to light and other dysautonomia symptoms.

Participants will learn specific post-concussion protocols to treat vision and focus, coordination, and attention span; these treatments help patients return to work and their everyday routines as soon as possible.

Dr. Shiu will also teach the Nanopuncture skull and neck palpation technique he created to help diagnose and treat concussion and traumatic brain injury, based on his nearly thirty years of clinical experience.

Dr. Shiu will introduce how the Shiu Clinic uses qEEG brain scans and Neurofeedback training in its approach to treat concussion and TBI. You will get more in-depth information in the Modern Technology and Innovation module.

This module will be taught by both Dr. Clayton and Dr. Ayla Wolf. Dr. Wolf is an esteemed practitioner of acupuncture and oriental medicine who specializes in concussions and neurological disorders. She is also an Assistant Professor of Acupuncture at the Carrick Institute.

Upon completing this module, students will be able to treat post-concussion dysautonomias, including but not limited to:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Light sensitivity
  • Inability to focus
  • Memory difficulties
  • Tachycardia
  • Insomnia

The Shiu Clinic has worked with concussion specialists at the Hospital for Special Surgery and co-treated patients with doctors at the New York Headache Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Learn More About the Other Modules

This compulsory module will cover how to awaken areas of the body that have fallen asleep due to stroke injury, how to restore healthy neurological blood flow to the brain, and how to determine the most effective treatment protocol for each stroke patient and objectively measure their progress.

In this module, you will learn how to properly categorize different forms of gait disorder from a neurological movement perspective.

The voice is one of the main tools that enable us to communicate clearly, and effectively, and to represent our truest selves.

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is like a computer in our bodies that keeps many of our systems running in the “background,” including digestion, perspiration, breathing, swallowing, blood pressure, heart rate, and more.

The skills learned in this module can also be applied to treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis and golfer's elbow, hand neuropathy, bicipital tendonitis, post-surgical shoulder and hand issues, and more.

The Gut-Brain Axis module is the most recent addition to the Nanopuncture seminar series. In this course, participants will learn the relationship of the microbiome to the brain.

In the Sports and Orthopedic module, Dr. Shiu will teach participants how to apply nerve plexus resetting techniques to treat common sports and orthopedic injuries.

In this seminar, Dr. Shiu will teach the basics of photobiomodulation (PBM), qEEG, and laser therapy and how to incorporate these technologies in a clinical session.
