Gut-Brain Axis / Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Dementia Module
Part of the Nanopuncture Seminar Series
About this Module
The Gut-Brain Axis module is the most recent addition to the Nanopuncture seminar series. In this course, participants will learn the relationship of the microbiome to the brain. The Shiu Clinic is renowned for integrating acupuncture, photobiomodulation, qEEG scans, and other modern technology to treat advanced brain disorders. Dr. Shiu will explain the latest research related to how gut-brain mechanisms lead to deposits of abnormal proteins in the brain, contributing to the development of many different disorders, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s dementia.
This seminar will provide a framework to guide practitioners in distinguishing cognitive degradation patterns from other disorders that present similarly, including concussion, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and more.
Participants will learn the pathophysiology of the gut-brain axis and the pathophysiology of the different stages of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and their dementias. You will understand the genesis of these diseases and how to assess and approach the different stages of Parkinson's and Alzheimer’s by treating the gut-brain axis.
Dr. Shiu will introduce students to his proprietary meridian and skull palpation method that he honed over twenty years of clinical experience. He uses this method to assess cognitive function and show them how he uses it to create different treatment protocols. Students will learn how the Shiu Clinic uses qEEG technology to analyze the brain and create unique treatments for their patients. He will demonstrate his unique gut-brain axis protocol and use of photobiomodulation devices (including the specific wavelengths and frequencies) to treat dementia in its early and middle stages.
The gut-brain axis module will cover:
- Assessing the vagus nerve and its involvement with the Gut-Brain Axis
- Differentiating and treating the different types of Dementia
- How to treat the Gut-Brain Axis with new needle manipulation techniques, herbal formulas
- How to treat different cognitive functions including short-term memory, managerial and executive functions, and spatial memory
- Recommended PBM devices for memory and when to use them
- Dietary Recommendations for the Gut-Brain Axis
The seminar includes a lot of needle practice and hands-on instruction from Dr. Shiu and his colleague who practices Nanopuncture at the Shiu Clinic. Dr. Shiu will also discuss how to begin integrating Nanopuncture and new technology from a practice management perspective.
Learn More About the Other Modules
In this module, you will learn how to properly categorize different forms of gait disorder from a neurological movement perspective.
Speech Paralysis and Left Hemisphere Module
The voice is one of the main tools that enable us to communicate clearly, and effectively, and to represent our truest selves.
Concussion / Traumatic Brain Injury Module
The Nanopuncture System accelerates concussion recovery and treats post-concussion symptoms using techniques that calm the nervous system, reduce tachycardia, increase focus, and mitigate hypersensitivity to light and other dysautonomia symptoms.
Autonomic Nervous System and Cranial Nerves Module
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is like a computer in our bodies that keeps many of our systems running in the “background,” including digestion, perspiration, breathing, swallowing, blood pressure, heart rate, and more.
The skills learned in this module can also be applied to treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis and golfer's elbow, hand neuropathy, bicipital tendonitis, post-surgical shoulder and hand issues, and more.
Gut-Brain Axis / Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Dementia Module
The Gut-Brain Axis module is the most recent addition to the Nanopuncture seminar series. In this course, participants will learn the relationship of the microbiome to the brain.
In the Sports and Orthopedic module, Dr. Shiu will teach participants how to apply nerve plexus resetting techniques to treat common sports and orthopedic injuries.
Modern Innovations and Technology Module
In this seminar, Dr. Shiu will teach the basics of photobiomodulation (PBM), qEEG, and laser therapy and how to incorporate these technologies in a clinical session.
